My hair has always been flat and fine, so to gain volume I blow dry my hair upside down on medium heat after every shower, but years of repetition has lead to the middle section towards the tips looking a bit dry with quite a number of frizzy looking flyaways.

So when I saw this product with its relatively decent price tag and 96% natural rating, I thought to give it a try!

I hope you find this post and my subsequent future posts very useful and if you have tried any of these products yourselves then let us know what you made of them too, we’d be very excited to hear your experiences!  x

A bit of background first:

For years I had been living in the dark ages when it came to things such as beauty products, grabbing whatever I found as my monthly shampoo. My hair was thin, limp and lacklustre with a itchy scalp and subsequent dandruff, quite a sad sight which I just pinned down to unluckiness.

I knew that sooner or later, I would have to be reviewing a disappointing product. Here is one such product. And it was overwhelmingly disappointing.

  • BRAND: Naked Style
  • PRODUCT NAME: Heat Defender Heat Protection Spray
  • PRODUCT PRICE: AUD $3.95 (I think!) for 200ml
  • TOXICITY: Silicone free
  • RATING: 1/5

Perhaps the price should have told me. But what the heck did I know? I thought I was buying an innocently natural hair spray:

There are so many things that went wrong with this product I think I’ll just list them:

  • I mean, check out that quantity label on the front! It’s not even stuck on correctly! This should have been a warning sign…
  • The nozzle didn’t work. I had trouble getting it to twist ‘on.’
  • Instead receiving of a evenly-distributed mist of product upon pressing the nozzle, this little bummer just squirted droplets of water. Sometimes it would spray a proper mist, but mostly it didn’t. Sometimes it didn’t even produce anything, no matter which way up I held it.
  • It smelt absolutely disgusting.
  • It didn’t seem to do much of a job of protecting my hair from the heat. Most heat-sprays at least do some volumising – this didn’t even achieve that.
  • It felt sticky and dry at the same time.

All in all, a complete and utter dud. What a damn shame. I hope that maybe I bought a one-off fail, a fake or something well past its use-by date, because otherwise I’m gonna have to say: stay away 😦

Ah well, nice excuse to go buy something nicer… 😉

INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Sodium PEG-40 maleate/Styrene sulfonate copolymer, PEG-40 Hydrogenated castor oil, Jojoba wax PEG-120 esters, Glycerin, Betaine, Parfum, Panthenol, Dicaprylyl ether, Lauryl alcohol, Tocopheryl acetate, Adansonia digitata (baobab) seed oil, Acacia farnesiana (acacia) flower extract, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Citric acid, Potassium sorbate, Sodium benzoate, Benzyl salicylate, Amyl cinnamal, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Eugenol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Benzyl benzoate

This is my first Naked Style product and it was really disappointing. I would love to try something that  corrects this feeling! The search for a natural, animal-friendly heat protector continues…

Peachy love xxxx
