Okokok so I didn’t get round to posting this earlier but I am SUPER EXCITED about this and had to share it…

Last week I managed to book myself a make-up session with Laura Janes, National Training Director and make-up artist from HOURGLASS (yep that’s right…. only, like, my favourite luxe beauty brand c:). Today I am going to take you through the products she used and techniques she taught me, step-by-step!

I spent one hour at Mecca Cosmetica (Sydney) talking to, and having my face done by Laura herself. It cost me $50.00 to secure a booking a couple of days before, which was then redeemable via a product purchase. Events like these are highly popular at Mecca so it was worth securing my reservation as soon as was possible – it had nearly sold out!

The best thing about the appointment was, of course, the chance to speak to a such an experienced and involved member of a very high-performing, quality brand about their products. Hourglass is, as you know, famous for their amazing complexion products and their corresponding brushes so using these tools quickly became the focus of our conversation.

The procedure was simple: Laura spent the majority of time with each client whilst a trained Mecca staff member watched on closely and helped with assistant duties (“scalpel, please… drill…” – you get it) before finishing off whatever ‘look’ Laura had been creating. Before I go on, I have to say two things: Firstly, that Ms. Janes was fantastic: both friendly and professional, she knew everything and taught me so much about the products such that I had no more questions by the time she had finished! Secondly: a big shout-out to the Mecca staff I see all the time (and those I don’t!) for their helpfulness, expertise and truly great customer-service.

After the free drinks… we moved on to the makeup… 🙂

Luckily for me, I came in completely sans makeup so was happy to take whatever they threw at me 🙂 I had the following applied to me:

  1. Primer: Veil Mineral Primer
  2. Foundation: Illusion Tinted Moisturiser in ‘Shell’
  3. Concealer: (Laura used only the foundation! omg)
  4. Cheeks: Ilume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in ‘Bronze Light’
  5. Powder: Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Luminous’
  6. Eye pencil: Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in ‘Eclipse’ & liquid lliner: Calligraphy Liquid Liner in ‘Ebony’
  7. Eyeshadow: Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo in ‘Prism’
  8. Eyebrows: Arch Brown Sculpting Pencil in ‘Dark Brunette’
  9. Tools: Brushes No.2 (foundation/blush), No.3 (all-over shadow), No.4 (crease)

Okay so I’m going to do my best to summarise Laura’s expert advice!
