O hai! So today, I thought I’d just share a link:

For all of us who are curious, the BBC has featured this article concerning the practicalities and issues regarding the cessation of animal testing.

That’s it for today, ciao until next time!

Errrmaahhhggerrddd I am so super excited because a couple of weeks ago I made my first ever indie polish purchase. I’d been hankering after Hare Polish’s “Last Queen of France” collection (both the glitter and jelly shades!) in particular. I can’t remember where I first saw this swatched but I feel in love as soon as saw so I knew I just HAD to get the set.

I ordered off Llarowe.com, which is a US-based based online nail colour stockist. I also purchased an Emily de Molly and two darling divas. I also used Shoppe Eclecticco (Singapore) and the Hare Polish Etsy store for the HP “Hooky at the Hamlet” and “Let Them Eat… What?” respectively.

I LOVE THEM THEY’RE ALL SO PRETTY!!!!! 🙂 Swatches and reviews to follow soon, I’m sure! xxx

Okokok so I didn’t get round to posting this earlier but I am SUPER EXCITED about this and had to share it…

Last week I managed to book myself a make-up session with Laura Janes, National Training Director and make-up artist from HOURGLASS (yep that’s right…. only, like, my favourite luxe beauty brand c:). Today I am going to take you through the products she used and techniques she taught me, step-by-step!

I spent one hour at Mecca Cosmetica (Sydney) talking to, and having my face done by Laura herself. It cost me $50.00 to secure a booking a couple of days before, which was then redeemable via a product purchase. Events like these are highly popular at Mecca so it was worth securing my reservation as soon as was possible – it had nearly sold out!

The best thing about the appointment was, of course, the chance to speak to a such an experienced and involved member of a very high-performing, quality brand about their products. Hourglass is, as you know, famous for their amazing complexion products and their corresponding brushes so using these tools quickly became the focus of our conversation.

The procedure was simple: Laura spent the majority of time with each client whilst a trained Mecca staff member watched on closely and helped with assistant duties (“scalpel, please… drill…” – you get it) before finishing off whatever ‘look’ Laura had been creating. Before I go on, I have to say two things: Firstly, that Ms. Janes was fantastic: both friendly and professional, she knew everything and taught me so much about the products such that I had no more questions by the time she had finished! Secondly: a big shout-out to the Mecca staff I see all the time (and those I don’t!) for their helpfulness, expertise and truly great customer-service.

After the free drinks… we moved on to the makeup… 🙂

Luckily for me, I came in completely sans makeup so was happy to take whatever they threw at me 🙂 I had the following applied to me:

  1. Primer: Veil Mineral Primer
  2. Foundation: Illusion Tinted Moisturiser in ‘Shell’
  3. Concealer: (Laura used only the foundation! omg)
  4. Cheeks: Ilume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in ‘Bronze Light’
  5. Powder: Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Luminous’
  6. Eye pencil: Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in ‘Eclipse’ & liquid lliner: Calligraphy Liquid Liner in ‘Ebony’
  7. Eyeshadow: Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo in ‘Prism’
  8. Eyebrows: Arch Brown Sculpting Pencil in ‘Dark Brunette’
  9. Tools: Brushes No.2 (foundation/blush), No.3 (all-over shadow), No.4 (crease)

Okay so I’m going to do my best to summarise Laura’s expert advice!

Hello all! This is Lynn here.

So, erm, if you read the post below, please ignore it.

It’s not meant to be appearing on the home page. I’m such a newbie when it comes to WordPress skills (read: no useful knowledge of WP functionality). Anyway, many hours after trawling the internet for forum posts which I didn’t understand in any case, a VERY NICE GUY on Facebook who helped me display my ‘review’ category posts in our reviews page!!

So this means that all our reviews are easy to find!!! In one place!!! I’m so happy!!!! and tired! and it’s my birthday omg. And that’s way to many exclamation marks to be healthy.

I’m off to bed now. But before you click away, feel free to check on the fruition of my hard labour here!

Ciao bunnies (for now) xxx

Oh, my word I am so sorry we’ve been so quiet here! It’s not much of an excuse, I know! Nevertheless, here it is: my sincerest apologies, readers :3

And now on to a treat: I have here a complete review of Urban Decay’s beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Naked2 palette. It’s a cult favourite and frankly, it’s one of mine too.

  • BRAND: Urban Decay
  • PRODUCT NAME: Naked2 Palette
  • PRICE:   AUD $54.78 from BeautyBay.com
  • TOXICITY: Contains talc, bismuth oxychloride
  • VEGAN: No – all shadows may contain carmine (d’oh! – the brush is vegan however :))
  • RATING: 4/5 (a point docked for the ingredients and the average lipgloss)

Without further ado:

Urban Decay - "Naked2" (complete palette)

Urban Decay – “Naked2” (complete palette)

The palette includes:

  • 12x neural-coloured eye shadows (ranging from purest milky matte to black);
  • 1x berry-red ‘Lip Junkie’ lip gloss in Naked
  • Dual-ended ‘Good Karma’ vegan eye shadow brush (one end for blending, one for definition);
  • A whole lot of neutral gorgeousness.

I’m very excited, because this is the Ethical Peach’s first review for luxe US cosmetics brand, Hourglass… and I happen to be a huge fan of Hourglass.  These guys are famous for their complexion products. I have to say, from my experience with their in-store testers, I’m not going to be arguing with this stake on their reputation – their face products are exquisite, although so far my budget has pretty much prevented me from purchasing any of them.

Despite the truly exceptional quality of their complexion ranges, Hourglass has clearly not been skimping on their paying attention to their other products. Lips and eyes are equally well catered for and today we’ll be focussing on an example from the latter.

  • BRAND: Hourglass
  • PRODUCT NAME: Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in ‘Dune’
  • PRICE:   AUD $34.18 from Zuneta.com
  • TOXICITY: Contains talc, methylparaben, propylparaben; may contain titanium dioxide (does not contain carmine)
  • VEGAN: Yes
  • RATING: 5/5 (I was going to dock a point for the inclusion of the ingredients stated above, but I think the vegan-ness and sheer quality of the product deserves its 5/5 rating :))

This here is their Visionaire eyeshadow duo in ‘Dune’:

And now moving on to the news…

Well we’ve had a great week here at the Peach and have received another PR response, this time from Thijs Faas, Director of Communication & Marketing at luxe colour cosmetics line, Ellis Faas.

And we can say that no, they do not test on animals 🙂 So head on over to our beauty brand pages to take a look!

If you’re interested in reading what they said, then here’s a copy of our correspondence below:

11 April 2013 (Lynn to Ellis Faas)

Dear Thijs,

I am contacting you as an independent writer, researcher and consumer.

The beauty brands that I evaluate are selected on the basis that I consider them to be ‘ethical’ companies. The biggest concern I have concerning companies I review is animal testing. I do not buy from or endorse companies which I believe engage in, sponsor or condone the practice of animal testing.

I therefore request more information about your corporate animal testing policy, as I am not currently certain of your animal testing status. I would especially like to confirm whether or not Ellis Faas or any of your suppliers, currently engage(s) in animal testing. I would be very grateful if Ellis Faas could kindly address the following issues.

Please confirm that:

  1. Ellis Faas does not test on animals any of its currently available consumer products.
  2. Ellis Faas does not test on animals any of the ingredients used to formulate its currently available consumer products.
  3. Ellis Faas does not formulate any of its currently available consumer products with ingredients which are sourced from suppliers which test on animals.
  4. Ellis Faas does not have any plans to engage in animal testing in the future.
  5. Ellis Faas does not belong to a parent company that engages in animal testing or which sources ingredients from suppliers who test on animals.
  6. Ellis Faas does not market or otherwise endorse a company that tests on animals and does not market or otherwise endorse any company who sources from a supplier(s) that tests on animals.
  7. Ellis Faas does not market or otherwise endorse any currently available product(s) from a company that tests on animals.

If you cannot so confirm the above, please indicate what steps, if any, are being undertaken to end this practice at your firm.

I consider that the practice of deliberately exposing any non-human animals to natural or synthetic cosmetic compounds, or finished cosmetic products, for the purposes of experimentation constitutes animal testing. This definition is in line with those practices now prohibited under the testing and marketing ban issued by the European Commission, effective from 11 March 2013 in the Cosmetics Directive (soon to be replaced by the Cosmetics Regulation as of July 2013).

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Lynn Edwards

Response from Thijs Faas to Lynn – 11 April 2013 – an impressively prompt reply!

Hi Lynn,

Thanks for your message, and I believe the following says it all?

http://www.ellisfaas.com/brand/only-tested-on-supermodels/

And that also counts for the future of course!

Best, Thijs

Great stuff. The ‘Tested Only On Supermodels’ page is great as it states no animal testing, and this has been referred to by Thijs Faas in correspondence. However, we felt that whilst the aforementioned page provided a good answer, we wanted more detail. So we wrote back:

Hi Thijs

Thanks for your prompt response! I have seen the “Only tested on supermodels” page before. It answers most of the questions (1-4) I asked. However, there are a few points that are not addressed on the page and if you could confirm them, that would be fantastic:

Many thanks
Lynn

And received a reply thus:

Ha! Sorry: but also 5. “we don’t”, 6. “we don’t”, 7. “we don’t”!

Best, Thijs

… short, but to the point 🙂 It’s on the record, folks!

We’ve a gut feeling that there’s going to be a few Ellis Faas reviews to come here, for sure. Watch this space. We hope y’all have a beautiful week 🙂

Peachy love xxx

My hair has always been flat and fine, so to gain volume I blow dry my hair upside down on medium heat after every shower, but years of repetition has lead to the middle section towards the tips looking a bit dry with quite a number of frizzy looking flyaways.

So when I saw this product with its relatively decent price tag and 96% natural rating, I thought to give it a try!

  • BRAND: Yes To Carrots
  • PRODUCT NAME: Yes To Carrots Leave-In Conditioner with Argan Oil
  • PRODUCT PRICE: GBP £10.99 for 170g
  • PRODUCT TESTING PERIOD: 1 month and counting!
  • MY HAIR TYPE: Down to chest, fine and thin, normal to oily
  • MY HAIR WASHING FREQUENCY: Every other day while hair is still wet from showering
  • TOXICITY: Natural – SLS and Petroleum free
  • RATING: 4/5
