Beauty > Hall of Shame

This blog centres around the principle of ethical beauty. It’s unfortunate, however, that we have to focus on the ‘ethical’ part at all, but sadly most of the brands we know and recognise aren’t particularly ethical in the way they operate. When it comes to ceasing animal testing, socially responsible practices, or ethically conscious behaviour then many of the brands consumers are familiar with simply falling way too short.

If you only have a fairly average understanding of the beauty, cosmetics and personal care industry, you’d be forgiving for thinking that the list below ruled out just about every brand you’ve been familiar with … and you’d probably be right. However there are *plenty* of high quality ethical brand alternatives. You might be wonderful, “If they’re so good then why haven’t I heard of them?” The short answer is: marketing budget. A giant company like L’Oreal has a giant PR and marketing budget to match. We say: don’t judge a cover by its book! Judge it by its ingredients, its policies and its results.

On these pages we’ve listed some of the biggest offenders when it comes to unethical corporate behaviour. We’d advise you to stay well clear (read: boycott) until they change their practices. You certainly won’t be finding any Peach reviews or endorsements from the following brands unless they clean up their act.

  1. Companies that test on animals
  2. Companies that engage in dishonest, corrupt and/or illegal practice
  3. Companies that engage in unethical social behaviour
